For Bumbershoot 2019, I served on the site operations side of the festival working primarily as the Creative Site Lead under our creative director Sam Warren.  My primary job was to aid Sam in ensuring that the art installations and activations around site as well as some of the major decor items were constructed and ready for public interaction.  Specifically, I worked on hanging the ukulele and umbrella decorations over main thoroughfares throughout the site, constructing and securing art walls and murals, installing rigging hardware for and hanging all the B-EATS signage, building pallet fences to divide VIP and GA areas, and providing support to artists on site.
Aside from the main major projects I was responsible for, I aided our operations team in unloading all of the festivals assets and preparing our boneyard, took charge of receiving both merchandise and heavy equipment deliveries, aided our creative team in moving merchandise and sponsor related items to and from the venue and other locations, adjusted and set uplighting in various locations around the venue, and aided all departments in miscellaneous projects to support our overall team.
Unfortunately during the festival, we had a barricade collapse which fortunately led to only minor injuries.  While I was not on the clock during the incident, I jumped in to support our team anyway as we are all responsible for the success of the festival as well as the safety and well being of our patrons.
The incident afforded me an opportunity to gain some valuable first hand experience working with emergency management in a high intensity situation.  I was proud to be a part of a team that handled a situation like this with such swift action, rapid preparation to aid anyone in need, calm demeanors, and compassion for all of our patrons.
