Chihuly Glass and Gardens approached PNTA in the fall of 2019 to support with lighting the gardens for an experiential art activation and to highlight and accompany the incredibly impressive work of Dale Chihuly showcased in the outdoor space of their museum. The project presented some unique challenges which included working in a tight space, hanging lighting from locations with no firm hang points, and lighting the space with little to no impact on the garden and the flora.
We provided the client with rendering of what we were confident was a possible outcome and representation of the end result of the project and then worked with our trusted engineering firm to develop custom designed steel brackets and engineering solutions to provide our client with a unique and safe solution to accomplish their goals.
We engineered and designed custom steel brackets that were affixed atop a pair of Unistrut tracks situated on top of the vertical I-Beams perpendicular to the building with a rated webbing solution secured to an additional Unistrut track affixed horizontally with beam clamps on the back end of the I-Beams to utilize opposing forces in a cantilevered design to ensure safe attachment in up to 60MPH winds.
In addition to the engineering we did on the structural components, we also custom built and design an ETC lighting console inside of a Pelican case . The console we built to be IP65 rated and was remotely monitored and controlled over LTE for both remote control and remote monitoring through an IP camera for the 45 day installation with no issues.
